looking after customers for more than a century

Omer
Maheu started his business in 1896. Back then it was a general
store, serving the needs of the surrounding farming communities.
Today the Maheu store in Embrun draws customers from all over
eastern Ontario. |

1919 Omer moved his store to its present location at 1027 Notre-Dame
street in Embrun. His sons Albert and Osias joined the business.
In 1949, Jean-Paul Maheu, son of Osias, went to work in the family
business and changed its direction forever. Jean-Paul was interested
in furniture and in the post-war years, the demand for furniture
was high.
The Embrun store will always be the heart of the family. Jean-Paul
is still very much involved in the business and likes to meet the
customers and help them find what they need. The Embrun store is
managed and owned by Jacques Maheu and Suzanne Lemieux, Jean-Paul's
children.
Visitors never tire of touring Maheu's 25,000 square feet of space.
Inside are three floors of furniture and appliances for every room
of the house. In April 2005 we celebrated the Grand Re-opening of
are newly renovated and expanded store. We carry complete lines
of bedroom, living room, dining room, juvenile furniture, appliances
and electronics.
Although the business has changed, Omer would feel right at home
here. His great-grandchildren have the same work ethic and the same
insistence on customer service.
"Hard work and service" are the reasons for Maheu's success,
says Suzanne. "Our customers expect good service. That's why
they come back."
"We have a lot of experienced staff," say's Jacques. "It
is very important for the customers; they know they can rely on
our service."
